Enchanting tales

If you have a little one at home who loves nothing more than prancing about in a sparkly tiara and pink heels while waving a magic wand, there is something you should know: The Disney princesses are coming to town.

And what’s more, they’ll be ice skating.

Ariel, Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and the others will lace up their skates this week at the Spokane Arena in a new production of “Disney on Ice: Princess Wishes.”

The show tells of the princesses’ adventures as they travel to discover their fondest wishes. Ariel yearns to live out of the sea, Snow White longs for her true love, Mulan seeks courage and Jasmine finds “a whole new world.” The princesses are led through their adventures with the help of magical pixie Tinker Bell.

“Before dreaming up this edition of ‘Disney on Ice,’ we reflected on what makes Disney’s princesses so special,” the show’s producer, Kenneth Feld, says in a news release. “It didn’t take long to realize that every princess has one thing in common: Each embarked on an adventure to find their heart’s fondest wish, and through believing, they come true. We wanted to share that inspirational message with our audiences by celebrating the stories of these enchanting characters.”

The show will feature nearly 40 skaters, some 750 costume pieces and a 14-foot long carriage for Cinderella complete with 1,600 lights.
