Sting nets suspect in ‘Indiana Jones’ theft

Los Angeles Times The Spokesman-Review

LOS ANGELES – In a sting operation, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department detectives arrested a man in connection with the theft of computers and photographs from director Steven Spielberg’s upcoming fourth “Indiana Jones” movie.

An official with the “Indiana Jones” production reported the items missing Sept. 24 to the Sheriff’s Department, spokesman Steve Whitmore said Wednesday. The items were taken from an office on the Universal Pictures lot.

On Tuesday, people believe to be involved in the burglary sent out e-mails to several entertainment gossip Web sites offering to sell the images. Paramount Pictures notified investigators about the e-mails, Whitmore said.

Detectives then posed as potential buyers for the images and set up a meeting in West Hollywood on Tuesday evening. When the unidentified man arrived, he was arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property, Whitmore said. He was also being held on suspicion of violating his parole.

Officials said other suspects were being sought.
