Alaska treks focus of lecture

The Spokane Community College geology lecture series continues next week with a unique show on trekking across Alaska’s far north.

Marty Zajanc followed his desire for beauty to complete a 3,000-mile journey over nine separate treks across the northern wilderness. He will offer a slide show on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Lair auditorium at SCC, 1810 N. Green St.

The free lecture series has been well attended over the years and is open to the public.

Women’s clothing sale Oct. 19-20

Inland Northwest Health Services will present the fourth annual Wardrobes for Women sale Oct. 19 and 20 at Spokane Community College, 1810 N. Greene St.

Donations of special-occasion dresses, shoes, handbags and accessories will be accepted until Friday.

Anyone who provides a donation will be invited to a special sneak preview of the sale Oct. 18 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. that will include wine and cheese.

The sale will raise funds for the INHS Foundation which provides financial resources for St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute, Community Health Education Resource, Northwest MedStar and more.

Raise the Roof auction Oct. 19

Habitat for Humanity-Spokane will hold its 12th annual Raise the Roof Auction to provide funds for another Habitat home.

The auction will be held Oct. 19 at Northern Quest Casino Pavilion, 100 N. Hayford Road, Airway Heights.

There will be a silent auction at 5 p.m., dinner will be served at 7 and a live auction will follow dinner.

Items up on the block include vacations to Mexico, fly-fishing trips, art, dinner parties, entertainment and home and yard packages.

Tickets are $60 and are available by calling the Habitat office at 534-2552.

Girl Scouts host information night

Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and North Idaho will present a Hawaiian Luau Girl Scout Information meeting today from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Girl Scout Program Center, 1404 N. Ash St.

Girls interested in Girl Scouts, and their parents are invited to attend.
