The Slice: It’s worth the trip for a tasty little cider sip

Today is the annual CiderFest up in tiny Marcus, Wash.

I can’t go. But maybe you should.

Marcus is just north of Kettle Falls.

Tell all: What’s the story behind how your car got its name?

According to The Slice: Owning a one-time shelter dog makes you cool.

Name the city being discussed: “When you discover your waterfront, you discover more than views. You discover your history.”

Nope. That’s a quote from a story about Burlington, Vermont, appearing in last Sunday’s New York Times.

But it’s true elsewhere, too.

Two people who help make Spokane a good place: 1. Nancy Pulham, a nurse with Hospice of Spokane.

2. Dr. Jim Shaw at Sacred Heart.

A belated thank-you: To the twentysomething guy who told me I had dropped my jacket last week while walking downtown. (I had it slung through the strap of my shoulder pack and it had come loose and fallen to the sidewalk.)

Just wondering: So what did you think of the fall foliage in New England that time you went back there for a visit?

One good thing about supporting Whitworth sports teams: You don’t have to do a lot of rationalizing and holding your nose about the values underpinning athletics on that level.

All skate: Season passes to the Riverfront Park Ice Palace are on sale now. They’re $40, which is a bargain.

The skating season starts Oct. 17.

If you want to know the truth about how people drive around here: Ask a crossing guard.

Place with the most clocks showing different times: Sean O’Hare nominated St. Joseph Care Center.

Borderline condition: Sandy Tarbox Montano reported that when she is on a highway and crossing from one state to another, she anticipates feeling a little bump in the road. “Kinda feels like I’m driving over the lines on the map,” she wrote. “I like that.”

Slice answer: “He who tells someone that was home-schooled, ‘Well, you seem to have turned out OK’ demeans himself more than anyone else,” wrote Leonard C. Johnson of Moscow, Idaho.

Nobody asked me: But the commercials for churches one sees on certain Spokane TV channels make religion seem a bit like a used-car sale.

Today’s Slice question: What does it say about Idaho that some of the most-often stolen vehicle models are old pickups?
