Community update: Event will offer information on breast cancer

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Northwest Woman Magazine, Deaconess Medical Center, Sacred Heart Medical Center, Valley Medical Center, Rockwood Clinic, Cancer Care Northwest, Holy Family Hospital, Women’s Health Connection, and Kootenai Medical Center will hold the annual Because There is Hope on Monday.

From noon to 8:30 p.m., the region’s cancer specialists and physicians will be on hand with information on diagnosis, treatment options, survivorship, support groups, and more at the Spokane Community College Lair.

Free samples of products and services for women, beauty treatments, spa products, a wine tasting, and more will be part of the event.

UI music scholarship benefit

The University Chorus and Vandaleers will perform at the University of Idaho University Auditorium today at 4 p.m.

Tickets, available at the door, are $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens. Proceeds will benefit the music scholarship fund at UI’s Lionel Hampton School of Music.

Lake City Playhouse benefit

Visit the Lake City Playhouse today from 4 to 7 p.m. for “The Playhouse at Tony’s on the Lake.”

The evening will include dinner, wine and a silent auction.

Tickets are $65 per person. Proceeds will benefit the playhouse.

Lunch Down Under

On Thursday, have “Lunch Down Under” for the Children’s Village.

Celebrity law enforcement officers will be on hand to pass out “Down Under fines” to help raise money for the prevention of child abuse and neglect. They will be at Outback Steakhouse at 1381 Northwood Center Court in Coeur d’Alene from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Tickets are $15 per person, and proceeds will benefit the Children’s Village Foundation.

Spokane youth fundraiser

Beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday, the South Hill Kiwanis Club will host German Fall Feast Night at the Southside Senior Activity Center, 3151 E. 27th Ave.

The traditional German dinner will feature an all-you-can-eat buffet of wurst, sauerkraut, beef stroganoff and German potato salad. Also included in the evening will be a silent auction, live entertainment and a raffle.

Tickets are $10 per person, and children under age 6 are admitted free. Tickets can be purchased at the Southside Senior Activity Center in advance and at the door.

Proceeds will benefit youth programs and scholarships in Spokane.
