Area roundup: Sasquatch bring down Big Bend

Molly Blankenship had eight kills, and Ashlee Lupfer and Brynn DeLong each had seven as Community Colleges of Spokane defeated Big Bend (8-17, 2-6 East Region) 30-14, 30-13, 30-28 in a Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges volleyball matchup Wednesday night at Spokane Falls Community College.

Miranda Gouin added 27 assists for the Sasquatch (18-10, 6-2).

Women’s golf

Senior Brooke Henderson led Washington State to an 11th-place finish in the final round of the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Sammamish, Wash.

Henderson shot a 5-over-par 77. WSU combined for a final-round 302, finishing the three-day tournament with a score of 924.

Men’s soccer

Gonzaga moved back into the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Top 25 poll, coming in at No. 25 after being left out of the rankings since Sept. 11.

The Bulldogs (7-2-1, 2-0-1) moved up one spot to 23rd in the Soccer America poll and went up three spots to No. 27 in the College Soccer News rankings.

Hockey

The Spokane Chiefs acquired forward Ryan Letts, an 18-year-old forward from Newport Beach, Calif., from the Calgary Hitmen in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft.

In 47 games last season, Letts had three goals, five points and 42 penalty minutes.

Football

The Spokane Shock added two defensive linemen to their roster, signing Ben Siegert, an Oregon State University grad who holds the team record for blocked kicks in a single game (two), and Ray Gant, a former Georgia Bulldog.
