In brief: Kiwanis Club offers feast

The South Hill Kiwanis Club will host a German Fall Feast Night on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Southside Senior Activity Center, 3151 E. 27th Ave.

The all-you-can-eat buffet dinner of traditional German food includes wurst, sauerkraut, beef stroganoff and potato salad. The evening includes live entertainment, a silent auction and raffle.

Tickets are $10; children under 6 eat for free. Proceeds will support local children and community projects.

Manito

Park crews tidy up natural areas

City parks staff has been clearing brush and unwanted vegetation in some of the natural areas at Manito Park.

A city report indicated the plan is not to eliminate native areas but to manage and maintain them in better condition. The work is being done under Steve Nittolo, the new horticulture supervisor at Manito.

Cheney

StageWest to present ‘Laramie’

StageWest Community Theatre in Cheney will present “The Laramie Project” Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., Sunday at 3 p.m., Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 20 and 21 at 3 p.m. in the auditorium of Cheney City Hall, 609 Second St.

The play focuses on the community of Laramie, Wyo., in the days following the death of Matthew Shepard, a gay student.

Tickets are $10 and are available by calling the theatre at 235-4575. The play is not recommended for children.

Alliance plans open house Tuesday

An open house by Neighborhood Alliance will be held at The Magic Lantern Theater, Saranac Building, 25 W. Main Ave., Tuesday from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.

The open house is for people in Spokane County and Kootenai County communities to meet and talk with the new executive director of Neighborhood Alliance, Carol Sebastion, new board members, as well as leaders in neighborhoods such as West Plains, Glenrose, and Five Mile who are working with Neighborhood Alliance. Political candidates also will speak.

Sebastion, who succeeded co-founder and former Executive Director Bonnie Mager, said, “The Alliance will begin to focus on Spokane County-Kootenai County interaction. Our shared issues are water, transportation, exponential growth, disappearing agricultural land as well as wetlands – all affecting our neighborhoods and quality of life.”
