Achievements: Airmen graduate from basic training

The following area residents recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Air Force Airman Sarah Dring is the daughter of Teri Dring of Nine Mile Falls and a 2006 graduate of Quincy Senior High School.

Air Force Airman Madina Rogers is the daughter of Sandra Guillebeau of Panama City, Fla. and Richard Rogers of Nine Mile Falls.

Air Force Airman Nichole Brooks graduated from Ferris High School in 2005 and is the daughter of Anita Lund of Spokane Valley.

Air Force Airman Richard Luna is the son of Richard Luna of Liberty Lake.

Air Force Airman James Craddick is the son of Candace Craddick of Newport, Wash.

“Army Staff Sgt. Joshua Olson has been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal. The sergeant was awarded his medal for being named the Noncommissioned Officer of the Quarter. Olson is a shooter/instructor assigned to the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

He is the son of Jock and Shirley Olson of Newman Lake and a 1997 graduate of Freeman High School.

“Army National Guard Pvt. Dustin Jones recently graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

He is the son of John Talbot of Moses Lake and Shawna Jones of Othello, Wash. Jones graduated in 2007 from Moses Lake High School.

“Air Force Cadet Christopher Sweeney graduated from the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. The graduate received a Bachelor of Science degree and was commissioned as a second lieutenant.

He is the son of Gregg and Anita Sweeney of Medical Lake and graduated in 2003 from Medical Lake High School.

Mikaela McManus was recently commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army after successfully completing the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis McManus of Mead and is a 2003 graduate of Mt. Spokane High School.

■ Eastern Washington University recently announced area scholarship recipients for the 2007-08 academic year.

Joy Overmyer of Spokane received a $4,485 Moss Adams scholarship.

Samuel Schlaich of Greenacres was awarded a $750 Halstead scholarship. He is the son of James and Barbara Schlaich, and is a 2002 Central Valley High School graduate.

Tryphena Farmer of Medical Lake was awarded a $650 WSFE Local 931 scholarship. She is a 2004 graduate of Medical Lake High School, and is the daughter of Terry and Jackie Farmer.

Laura Smith of Spokane received a $2,500 John O’Neil scholarship. She is the daughter of Coleen Smith and graduated from Shadle Park High School in 2004.

Ashley Bell of Spokane was awarded an $800 Clarence and Elizabeth Wynia scholarship. She graduated from West Valley High School in 2004, and is the daughter of Larry and Teresa Bell.

James Holschen of Spokane was awarded a $1,500 Aretis and Kittiemae Dayton scholarship. He is a 1996 graduate of Faith Baptist Academy and the son of Darlene and James Holschen Sr.

Samantha Bowen of Chattaroy was awarded a $1,325 Rob and Randi Neilson scholarship. She graduated from Riverside High School in 2003 and is the daughter of Abe and Marlene Bowen.

Lisa Brooks of Spokane received a $1,000 Marylyn Keller Lundberg scholarship.

James Mace of Spokane was awarded a $2,500 Bonnie Glahn scholarship. He is the son of Steve and Renee Mace and graduated in 1998 from Medical Lake High School.

Kami Lundstrum of Spokane was awarded a $1,600 Arnie Carlson scholarship. She graduated from Ferris High School in 2002 and is the daughter of John Lundstrum and Mary Murphy.

Matthew Utesch of Veradale received a $650 Kllin EPT scholarship. A recent graduate of University High School, Utesch is the son of Jeff and Theresa Utesch.
