Prep Roundup: Zakrzewski leads Blackhawks to win

Kellie Zakrzewski scored two second-half goals to lead the Cheney girls soccer team to a 4-0 win over Clarkston in a Great Northern League match Thursday in Clarkston.

Zakrzewski’s second goal came off an assist from Jessica Ziemann in the 32nd minute that gave the Blackhawks a 2-0 advantage heading into the half.

Dani Raczykowski and Kaitlin Whitfield added goals in the second half for Cheney, which outshot the Bantams 19-4.

With the win, the Blackhawks improved to 11-2 overall and 10-1 in the GNL. Clarkston fell to 2-10 and 2-9 in league play.

Elsewhere in the GNL, Kaley Way scored off an assist from Lacey Nordby 1 minute into the match and Savannah Atabelo added a first-half goal to lift West Valley to a 2-0 win over host Colville. Karina Carpenter made nine saves for the Eagles to preserve the shutout. With the win, West Valley improved to 11-2 and 9-2 in the GNL while the Indians dropped to 4-8 and 3-8 in league play. … Callie Paul scored a goal and assisted on two others to lead host Lakeside to a 7-1 victory over Medical Lake in Nine Mile Falls. Jacy Fitzpatrick, Kasey Rubosky and Amanda Connelly also added a goal and an assist for the Eagles, who outshot the Cardinals 14-7. Lindsey Murray put Medical Lake up 1-0 with a goal off an assist from Courtney Kelly in the first minute. Lakeside improved to 8-5 overall and 7-3 in the GNL while the Cardinals fell to 4-9 and 3-8 in league play. … Tabby Grow had a goal and an assist to guide Riverside to a 5-0 shutout of host Chewelah. Tessa Svennungsen and LeAnn Daubel added goals in the first half to give the Rams a 3-0 halftime advantage. Kendra Pittman opened the scoring in the second half with a corner kick goal in the 52nd minute. Amanda Suhr capped the scoring with a goal off an assist from Kristen Johnson in the 60th minute. With the victory, Riverside improved to 6-6 and 6-5 in the GNL while the Cougars dropped to 0-12 and 0-10 in league action.

Volleyball

Melissa Mauro had 13 kills and Alyssa Wold added 33 assists and four aces to lead West Valley (9-1) to a 25-12, 25-9, 26-28, 25-14 Great Northern League win over visiting Deer Park. Ariana Obert had six kills and 14 digs to lead the Stags (3-7). … Elsewhere in the GNL, Carly Dorshorst had a team-high 11 kills, six aces and 18 digs as Medical Lake (3-7) defeated visiting Clarkston 25-5, 25-21, 15-25, 20-25, 15-13. Kelly McCann-Smith and Jamie Berghammer had 11 kills apiece to lead the Bantams (2-6). … Joni Nagy had a team-high 11 kills, 15 digs and seven aces to guide Riverside to a 25-14, 24-26, 25-21, 25-22 win over visiting Cheney (2-8). Liz McKinney dished out 19 assists and Kate Hart added six blocks for the Rams (4-6).
