Bulldogs stay hot, take down Lions

Grant Lundberg scored his third goal of the season and added an assist to lead the Gonzaga men’s soccer team to a 3-1 win over Loyola Marymount in a West Coast Conference match Friday at GU’s Martin Field.

Tye Perdido and Philippe Garre added goals for the Bulldogs, who ran their unbeaten streak to seven matches.

The victory improved GU’s record to 8-2-1 on the season and 3-0-1 in the WCC while the Lions dropped to 2-6-1 and 0-2 in conference play.

•Community College of Spokane goalkeeper Jeff Srock made nine saves to help the Sasquatch defeat host Edmonds 3-0 in a NWAACC match in Lynnwood, Wash.

Jay Vela, Kevin Bourland and Stefan Anderson all scored goals for CCS, which improved to 12-2-2 overall and 11-1 in the NWAACC to lead the East with six conference matches left. The Tritons fell to 2-9-2 and 2-8-1 in conference play.

•Washington fell 2-1 to Oregon State in a Pac-10 Conference match at Husky Soccer Field in Seattle.

With the loss, UW dropped to 5-5-2 on the season and 0-2-1 in the Pac-10 while the Beavers improved to 4-7 and 1-2 in conference play.

Women’s soccer

Lauren Hansen scored two unassisted goals to lead Utah State (5-8) to a 4-0 win over Idaho (4-8) in both teams’ Western Athletic Conference opener.

•Western Nevada (7-4-2, 0-2-2) and North Idaho (6-4-3, 2-0-1) played to a scoreless tie in a Scenic West Athletic Conference match at Eisenwinter Field in Coeur d’Alene. The Cardinals held a 19-5 advantage in shots.

•Sophomore Kiersten Dallstream scored two second-half goals to lead Washington State to a 3-1 win over Arizona in both teams’ Pac-10 opener in Tucson, Ariz.

WSU’s Brooke Bemis opened the scoring in the 19th minute.

With the win, the Cougars improved to 8-1-2 overall while the Wildcats fell to 6-6.

•Eastern Washington opened Big Sky Conference play with a 3-1 loss to Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo.

Brittney Doran scored the Eagles’ goal off a penalty kick in the 43rd minute.

With the loss, EWU fell to 5-5 The Bears improved to 5-6-1.

•Arizona State shut out Washington 3-0 in both teams’ Pac-10 opener in Tempe, Ariz.

The Huskies fell to 3-8 while the Sun Devils improved to 7-5.

•Christine Almquist, Lindsay Hood and Katie Hatcher scored two goals apiece to lead CC Spokane to a 9-0 NWAACC win over Edmonds in Lynnwood, Wash.

Lindsay Allred, Allison Seymour and Stephanie Hopkins added goals for the Sasquatch, who outshot the Tritons 24-3.

CCS improved to 8-6-1 on the season and 8-3-1 in the NWAACC while Edmonds dropped to 1-11.

Volleyball

Ellen Orchard had 11 kills and 10 blocks to lead 10th-ranked California to a 30-18, 30-22, 31-29 Pac-10 win over Washington State in Berkeley, Calif.

Jackie Albright and Brittany Johnson had nine kills apiece to lead the Cougars.

The Golden Bears, who handed Washington its first loss of the season Thursday, improved to 14-4 overall and 4-3 in the Pac-10 while WSU dropped to 9-12 and 0-7 in conference play.

•Jill Peacock had 20 kills to lead Pacific to a 22-30, 30-19, 30-24, 30-22 Northwest Conference win over Whitworth in Forest Grove, Ore.

Sarah Rusch had 18 kills and five blocks to lead the Pirates, who fell to 9-9 and 4-5 in the NWC while the Boxers improved to 9-7, 4-5.

•Stevie Mussie had 20 kills and Tamari Miyashiro had 37 digs to lead eighth-ranked Washington to a 30-24, 21-30, 24-30, 30-27, 15-10 upset of second-ranked Stanford in a Pac-10 match in Stanford, Calif.

The result left both teams with 17-1 and 6-1 records.

•Brandy Sonderland had 11 kills and Annie Kitchens added 19 digs to lead CC Spokane to a 30-25, 30-15, 30-27 NWAACC win over Treasure Valley in Ontario, Ore.

The Sasquatch improved to 19-10 and 7-2 in the NWAACC while the Chukars dropped to 12-16 and 5-5 in conference play.

Hockey

Columbia Valley (3-5) scored three goals in the opening period and beat Spokane 4-2 in a KIJHL game in Invermere, British Columbia.

Jake Walsh and Kori Lenahan each scored a goal in the second period for the Braves (6-4-2).
