Late goal produces win for Mead

Marissa Mykines scored off an assist from Jackie Hakes in the 72nd minute to lift the Mead girls soccer team to a 1-0 win over visiting Shadle Park in a Greater Spokane League match Friday.

Panthers goalkeeper Kelsey Terris made six saves to preserve the shutout.

With the win, Mead improved to 11-1 and 7-1 in the GSL while the Highlanders fell to 7-3 and 6-2 in league play.

Elsewhere in the GSL, Gonzaga Prep remained tied with Mead for first place with a 2-0 win at East Valley (4-6, 3-5). Erica Hart and Maddy Scott scored goals for the Bullpups (9-1, 7-1), who won despite being outshot 14-7. … Averi Hallman had four assists to lead Mt. Spokane to a 4-1 win over visiting University (4-8, 2-6). Brittany Urso, Delaney Zalud, Alli Floyd and Tiara Pittman all scored for the Wildcats (6-3, 6-2). … McKenzie Schnell and Annie Pokorny scored two goals apiece to lead Lewis and Clark to a 7-0 win over host North Central (1-10, 1-8). Alix Silha added three assists for the Tigers (10-4, 5-3), who outshot the Indians 28-1. … Erica Smith scored two first-half goals to lead Ferris to a 6-1 win over host Rogers (0-10, 0-9). Liz Boyden added a goal and an assist for the Saxons (3-7, 3-5).
