Torre remains in Yankees limbo

Still no decision on Joe Torre.

The New York Yankees manager remained in limbo Wednesday after a second day of meetings by team hierarchy failed to reach a conclusion.

“All we’re worried about is the process of making sure that we come to the right decision. When we do, we’ll get everybody involved,” Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said before leaving Legends Field and heading to the airport.

Owner George Steinbrenner arrived just before 1 p.m. but did not comment as he entered the spring-training ballpark at Tampa, Fla.

Stuckey shines for Pistons

Former Eastern Washington University standout Rodney Stuckey – the 15th overall pick in last year’s draft – started for the first time for Detroit and scored 17 points as the Pistons defeated the Denver Nuggets 119-110 in an exhibition game in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Jason Maxiell scored 25 points and Flip Murray added 21 to lead the Pistons.

Both teams rested most of their frontline players.

League reinstates Koren Robinson

The NFL has reinstated suspended Green Bay Packers wide receiver Koren Robinson.

Packers general manager Ted Thompson said the team will request a roster exemption for Robinson.

It was the first day Robinson was eligible to return from his one-year suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

His suspension came in the wake of an incident in August 2006 while he was playing for the Vikings. Police said Robinson led them on a car chase at speeds higher than 100 mph, and his blood-alcohol content was found to be 0.11 percent, above the legal limit of 0.08.

Robinson started his career with the Seahawks.

Not just players fall at Pittsburgh

The latest addition to Pittsburgh’s already long injury list is coach Dave Wannstedt.

Wannstedt will not be on the sideline for Pitt’s game against No. 23 Cincinnati on Saturday after tearing his left Achilles tendon.

He had surgery Tuesday, several hours after he was hurt. He also had arthroscopic knee surgery and won’t be able to walk on his own for at least a week.

Wannstedt will coach from the press box, switching places with offensive coordinator Matt Cavanaugh. Cavanaugh normally calls plays from the press box.

The Panthers (2-4) have lost four straight games.
