Religion notebook; Fox News analyst to speak at Northwest Christian

Northwest Christian Schools will present its sixth annual Crusader Fundraiser Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Spokane Convention Center, 334 W. Spokane Falls Blvd.

The event will include a free dessert banquet and will feature speaker Linda Chavez.

Chavez is a political analyst for Fox News Channel and is the chairman of the Center for Equal Opportunity. She has also written an autobiography, “An Unlikely Conservative: The Transformation of an Ex-Liberal.”

She will speak on the topic, “Living a Moral Life in a Morally Challenged Society.”

The event is free, but an appeal for financial support for the schools will be made.

Speaker

Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 2733 W. Northwest Blvd., will present Chaplain Ralph Buchhorn and his rescue dog, Georgie, Sunday during the 8 and 10:45 a.m. worship services.

Buchhorn is the founder of the Extra Mile Ministry and the Animal Assisted Crisis Response team after the attacks of Sept. 11.

He was a chaplain for the FBI for 20 years out of San Diego and will speak about his experiences with the Community Resource Center in Biloxi, Miss.

The center offers weekly support groups, visits to schools, shelters and medical clinics, and is a place where the homeless and unemployed can get free meals, medical care and Christian support.

Special service

St. David’s Episcopal Church, 7315 N. Wall St., will offer a contemporary Celtic Eucharist service Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The theme of the service is “Healing and Wholeness.”

The service will include a healing ritual and Communion for those who wish it.

There will also be chants, piano and flute music.

Attendees should bring a snack or beverage to share.

Concert

First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd., will present Liberty, a traditional Southern Gospel quartet, Sunday at 6 p.m.

The group is a full-time concert ministry and has traveled throughout the Western United States.

Bazaars

First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar St., will be the site of a fall luncheon and bazaar presented by the Whitworth Auxiliary on Tuesday at 11 a.m. presented by the Whitworth Auxiliary

The bazaar will benefit the residence halls of Whitworth University by providing furniture.

Seating for the luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. and there will be a program by Margo Long, a humorist and associate professor of education at the school.

Tickets are $15 and are available by calling Ada Brown, 466-6081.

Movies

“Lidgerwood Presbyterian Church, 4449 N. Nevada St., will present the movie, “The Rocketeer,” Friday at 7 p.m.

The movie is rated PG.

Free snacks will be provided.

“The Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., will present “Ten Questions for the Dalai Lama” as part of its Spiritual Cinema program Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m.

The movie will discuss the Dalai Lama’s story including some historical footage.

The cost is $10 for adults and $7 for students.

Spokane Christian Singles will host speed dating this weekend at Mission Community Church, 2103 E. Mission Ave.

Singles ages 20 through 49 will meet Saturday at 7 p.m. Singles over 45 will meet Sunday at 2 p.m.

The cost is $10 for first-time speed daters and $7 for each session after that.
