Spangle measure would improve streets, lights

The Spokesman-Review

Voters in the town of Spangle are being asked to approve a one-year property tax assessment to pay for $20,000 of work on the town’s streets and lights.

The cost to voters is estimated at $1.67 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, or $167 on a $100,000 home.

The money would be collected in 2008.

The ballot measure is a response to complaints about substandard conditions on Spangle’s streets.

The county voters guide said that citizen complaints have been lodged at virtually every Town Council meeting for more than a year.

The levy would pay for the most badly needed repairs and safety improvements through additional lighting.

County election officials said the measure will need a majority of 60 percent for approval.
