NIC offering new program
In an effort to be responsive to the needs of the local workforce, North Idaho College has developed a new, short-term certificate program in basic manufacturing.
Courses for the 19-credit certificate will begin this semester and finish in the spring of 2008.
The program will prepare students for work in the manufacturing field, covering manual machine operation, health and safety, blueprint reading and precision measurement.
The career program is part of NIC’s Machine Technology program. Completers of the basic manufacturing certificate can elect to go straight to work or can continue toward earning a technical certificate in machining.
Scholarships are available for students interested in earning a basic manufacturing certificate. Scholarship applications are available in the NIC’s Student Services Office in NIC’s Edminster Student Union Building, in the NIC Financial Aid Office in Lee-Kildow Hall or online at www.nic.edu/ financialaid/scholarships/ index.htm.
Classes begin Monday and space is still available. Call 769-3468 to enroll.
NIC presenting ‘Eastern Standard’
The North Idaho College Theater Department’s fall production opens Thursday with “Eastern Standard,” a comedic drama by Richard Greenberg, in which a group of successful New Yorkers confront how well they live up to their ideals. In the process, they must let go of patterns that no longer work and learn to trust.
“The play celebrates our very human ability to improve ourselves through overcoming failures and drawing strength from those around us,” said NIC Theater director Joe Jacoby, who is directing the play. NIC student Jenny Ruch of Coeur d’Alene will co-direct the play.
The cast includes community member Anne Selcoe and NIC students Troy Anast, Shane Brown, Chris Comstock, Lyndsie Scoggin and Lindsay Teter of Coeur d’Alene. Student Heather Mulhern of Coeur d’Alene is stage manager and student Cain Sanchez from Cashmere, Wash., is the assistant stage manager.
Curtain time will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through next Saturday and Nov. 1, 2 and 3 in NIC’s Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center.
The play is intended for mature audiences due to adult language and themes.
The shows are free and open to the public.
