Mead blanks NC

The Spokesman-Review

Mead roared past North Central 42-0 at Albi Stadium to keep its playoff hopes alive in one of four Greater Spokane League football games played Friday night.

Junior back Brandon Lynch rushed for 140 yards on 13 carries and scored the final three touchdowns as the Panthers (6-2, 5-2) dominated the Indians (2-6, 2-5) from beginning to end.

Lynch had nearly half of Mead’s rushing yards. Mead scored twice in each of the first two quarters and two more times in the final period.

Mead shares third place with Central Valley entering the final week of the GSL season.

University 14, East Valley 7: The power failed at University with 1 minute, 38 seconds left in the game, the exact moment that Tyler Clifton had his third interception, turning out the lights on the visiting Knights.

After consultation, the game was considered official despite the remaining time.

All scoring had come in the first half. The Titans (5-3, 4-3) broke a tie with the Knights (3-5, 3-5) on Mike Boyle’s 20-yard TD catch from Danny Jordan. Tyler Carlson rushed for 133 yards and U-Hi’s first-quarter score. EV’s Dakota Lawson had seven catches for 90 yards and a score.

Gonzaga Prep 34, Rogers 12: The host Bullpups (5-3, 4-3) found themselves trailing the Pirates (0-7, 0-7) 12-6 in the second quarter on a 42-yard pass by Andrew Durant to Cody Peterson. It was Peterson’s second TD.

But Travis Long broke a 47-yard scoring run and G-Prep added another score before intermission to take control.

The Bullpups rushed for 348 yards, Jeremy Condon with 162 on 18 carries. Long added 92 on four runs. Peterson, who had scored the first Rogers touchdown on a 55-yard scamper, finished with 78 on nine attempts and Jacob Partridge rushed 22 times for 77 more.

Mt. Spokane 20, Shadle Park 0: Connor Haley’s 35-yard run broke a scoreless deadlock in the second quarter and Brandon Jared scored twice in the second half for the Wildcats (2-5, 2-5) at Albi.

The Highlanders (1-7, 1-6) opened the game with a 20-play drive, but came away scoreless and they had a 13-play drive that also failed to produce any points.

Jared carried the ball 18 times for 200 yards, the bulk of Mt. Spokane’s 298 rushing. Haley had most of the rest, 80 yards on 11 attempts.
