Prep roundup: Mead, G-Prep secure top seeds

Girls soccer

Marissa Mykines scored the winner at 62 minutes after assisting on the tie-breaking goal at 34 minutes to give the Mead Panthers a 2-1 Greater Spokane League victory over the Lewis and Clark Tigers on Friday at Mead. … At Shadle Park, Kristi Wirtz scored the game’s only goal at 25 minutes to give the Highlanders a 1-0 win over the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups. … At Mt. Spokane, Averi Hallman scored one goal and assisted on another to give the Wildcats a 4-0 win victory over the Central Valley Bears. … At Ferris, Nicole Barber scored and the Saxons gained the final berth into the district playoffs with a 1-0 win over the East Valley Knights. … At University, Abby Goff scored twice to lead the Titans past the North Central Indians 7-0.

Mead and G-Prep are the first two seeds, respectively, and received byes for the District 8 4A tournament which begins Monday at Joe Albi Stadium. In Monday’s matchups, LC and CV play at 5 p.m., followed by Shadle Park and Ferris. The winners meet on Wednesday while Mead and G-Prep play for the district title.

“Both the Coeur d’Alene boys and girls lost in the championship semifinals of the Idaho State 5A soccer tournaments. The boys lost to Mountain View 2-0 at Lake City HS while the girls fell to Timberline, also 2-0, at Post Falls HS.

Boys cross country

Marcus Adkins finished fourth and led a string of four straight teammates across the finish line to give the Reardan Indians the Bi-County League team title at Harrington Golf Course. Adkins covered the 3.1-mile course in 19 minutes, 22 seconds. Jeff Pope of Valley Christian and Matt Cronrath of Odessa both ran 18:31 for medalist honors, but Pope won a tiebreaker for the top seed.

Brian Angove led a sweep of the top seven spots for St. George’s and set a course record with a time of 17:16 and the Dragons easily won the team title at the Panorama League championships on the 5,000-meter course at St. George’s School.

Girls cross country

Northwest Christian’s Lisa Vandenburg won the individual title at the Bi-County League championships with a time of 21:22 over 3.1 miles – 2:39 ahead of the second-place finisher – but Reardan won the team title. Reardan had four runners in the top 10, led by fourth-place Brooke Lillengreen (24:37) to outdistance Northwest Christian. Vandenburg, the defending state champion, and third-place Erika Helgeson were the only Crusaders runners in the top 10.

“St. George’s swept the first five spots, led by Katie Reidy in a course-record 19:57, as the Dragons won the Panorama League championship on the 5,000-meter course at St. George’s.

Volleyball

Carianna Ruth had 10 kills and 20 digs and Central Valley clinched the fifth district playoff berth with a 25-15, 25-27, 25-17, 25-17 GSL win over the Ferris Saxons at CV. District play begins Tuesday.
