Area Roundup: Crowe ties record in Pirates’ win

Penelope Crowe tied a school record for assists for Whitworth in a 4-1 Northwest Conference women’s soccer victory over visiting George Fox Saturday.

Crowe assisted on three goals, tying the record held by five other players, for the Pirates (13-1, 10-1). Kaylyn Plumb scored the first and last goal for Whitworth.

Kristen Cardwell scored the lone goal for George Fox (9-5-1, 6-4-1) in the 58th minute.

“Christine Almquist scored the game-tying goal in the 76th minute as Community Colleges of Spokane tied host Columbia Basin 1-1 in NWAACC action at Pasco.

Kristin Kaser scored for Columbia Basin (13-1-2, 11-1-2). Lindsay Hood assisted on Almquist’s goal for CC Spokane (8-6-3, 8-3-3).

Men’s soccer

Skye Henderson scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute, propelling Whitworth to a 4-3 Northwest Conference victory over visiting George Fox.

Whitworth (11-2-1, 9-1) finally finished off George Fox (3-10-2, 1-7-2) after the Bruins tied the score twice in the second half.

“Community Colleges of Spokane earned a 2-1 NWAACC victory over host Columbia Basin at Pasco.

Ryan Matern scored the game-tying goal in the 77th minute and Jay Vela put the game-winning goal in at the 86th minute.

CC Spokane (15-2-1, 13-1) remains in first place in the East Division. Columbia Basin (6-9, 6-8) is in last place.

Volleyball

Hayley Hills had 22 kills and 12 digs for Eastern Washington in a 23-30, 30-25, 30-21, 30-24 Big Sky Conference victory over Weber State at Ogden, Utah.

Ashley Hamilton added 40 assists for the Eagles (8-13, 7-3). .

Micah Lines had nine kills and 12 digs for Weber State (9-10, 6-4).

“Gonzaga lost 25-30, 30-17, 28-30, 30-22, 15-12, against San Diego in West Coast Conference action at San Diego.

Heather Dunn had 56 assists and 15 digs for Gonzaga (15-8, 3-4).

Laurel Abrahamson led San Diego (16-5, 6-1) with 25 kills.

“Whitworth fell 28-30, 30-25, 30-28, 30-22 to Linfield in a Northwest Conference match at Spokane.

Cassie Moore had 28 digs for the Pirates (10-11, 5-7) and Katelyn Baker had 24 kills and nine digs for Linfield (13-8, 8-4).

Rowing

Washington State won six of seven races against Gonzaga during women’s competition at the Head of the Spokane.

In the women’s varsity 8 race, Washington State beat Gonzaga by 16 seconds.

Gonzaga won all five men’s races.

Gonzaga edged out the Cougars by 5 seconds in the men’s varsity 8 race.

Cross country

The Community Colleges of Spokane men won the Bellevue Invitational with 16 total points. The women’s team finished second to British Columbia.

Mark Moeller of the Sasquatch placed second with a time of 25 minutes, 9 seconds.
