Morrison’s sophomore season over with ACL tear

Staff and wire report

Adam Morrison’s second season in the NBA is over before it begins.

Morrison, the Mead High School and Gonzaga University standout, suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in an exhibition loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. The team anticipates him needing season-ending surgery.

Morrison’s left knee buckled midway through the third quarter of a 20-point loss to the Lakers. He cut hard right, reacting to a drive by Lakers forward Luke Walton, and felt a popping sensation in the joint. He immediately crumpled to the floor, grabbing his knee and shrieking in pain.

“He pretty much knew” what the MRI exam would reveal, coach Sam Vincent said, “because he felt, when he made the move, the pop.”

Morrison was scheduled to fly home on the team plane Sunday, then consult with the team physician, today.

Although Morrison wasn’t a starter this preseason, Vincent was counting on him as the first or second player off the bench, alongside Matt Carroll. Vincent planned for him to average 20 to 25 minutes and 14 to 16 points.
