Bus vandalism cancels classes

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

SNOQUALMIE, Wash. – A rash of school bus vandalism has forced cancellation of classes in the Snoqualmie Valley School District.

School officials told police Monday morning that wires were cut in 36 of the 43 buses in the bus barn of the district east of Seattle. Police say they found wires to the stop signs that flip out from the sides of buses had been cut, and in some cases the wires to cameras also were cut.

A school district spokeswoman, Carolyn Malcolm, says the severed wires also disabled intercoms and the flashing red lights activated when a bus stops.

School officials expect repairs to be made in time for classes to resume today.
