Ready, set, swap

» Teenagers are like weeds growing in the dark, hidden corners of your garden. They seem to grow by inches virtually overnight, rendering last season's skis obsolete and creating a pain in their parents' wallets. But you can get all geared up before the snow flies at the popular annual ski swap that benefits the Mount Spokane Ski Patrol.

» The annual sale features thousands of new and used winter sports items and is a great place to get a deal. Equipment for a variety of sports will be available including Nordic, telemark, alpine skiing and snowboarding. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Sunday at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center. Admission is $4 for adults; children under 12 are admitted free.

» The Ski Patrol uses the proceeds to purchase medical and first aid supplies as well as rescue equipment.

» Theater Arts for Children is presenting a special performance of the classic children's tale "Hansel and Gretel" at 5 p.m. Sunday to benefit Spokane Valley Partners. The organization is in need of food items to be handed out in Thanksgiving food baskets for low-income residents. The performance will be in the Spokane Valley Partners auditorium at 10814 E. Broadway Ave. Admission is one nonperishable food item per person or a bag of food per family. Items needed include canned cranberries, olives, canned yams, canned pumpkin, Jell-O and cake mixes.
