Jesus and politics

The Rev. George Baldwin will be in Spokane next week to lecture, lead a writing seminar and sign copies of his book “A Political Reading of the Life of Jesus.”

Baldwin is a United Methodist pastor and was a seminary professor at St. Paul’s in Kansas City for 14 years.

The lecture and signing will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at The Book Parlor, 1414 W. Broadway Ave. All are welcome to attend.

Baldwin will lead a “credo writing” seminar next Saturday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, 1428 W. Broadway Ave. The cost is $35, which includes a copy of his book.

Spiritual Hunger focus of conference

Healing Rooms Ministries will host its ninth annual Spiritual Hunger Conference Wednesday through next Saturday at the Spokane Convention Center, Group Health Exhibit Halls, 334 W. Spokane Falls Blvd.

Featured speakers will include Cal Pierce of Healing Rooms Ministries, Bill Johnson of Bethel Church in Redding, Calif., and Heidi Baker of Iris Ministries in Mozambique.

LDS Chapel open house

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will host an open house for its new chapel at 2721 E. 63rd Ave. next Saturday.

Hours will be 4 to 8 p.m., and the community is invited. Refreshments will be served.

The chapel joins a baseball field and recreation area already on site that is open to the public.

Hymn sing at St. Mark’s

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church will host its annual hymn sing during the 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. worship services Sunday.

The orchestra will include Dan Keberle and Andy Plamondon on trumpet, Tom Molter and Melinda Keberle on trombone and percussionist Paul Raymond.

The public is invited. The church is at 24th Avenue and Grand Boulevard.
