The Slice

We all know it can take children a while to get used to a new teacher.

It’s not always love at first sight.

But teachers also have to get adjusted to their new pupils.

Ginny Ressel teaches a combined kindergarten/ first-grade class in Sprague, Wash. She told about a magic moment that happens every fall, early in the school year.

“At some point – sometimes it takes longer than other times – but at some point in the first month or so, all of the sudden the bond clicks and they become your kids,” she said. “Your whole demeanor and feeling and everything changes. And the best part of my job, I would say, is that moment it clicks and I think, oh yeah — these are mine, they’re not the new kids anymore.”
