Indians 6, Twins 2: At Minneapolis, Victor Martinez had two hits and two RBIs to back a quality start from Fausto Carmona, and Cleveland beat Minnesota. Carmona allowed two runs and eight hits in 7 1/3 innings. Rafael Perez got five outs for his first major league save.

Athletics 6, Angels 2: At Anaheim, Calif., Mark Ellis hit a three-run homer, leading Oakland over Los Angeles. Donnie Murphy had a career-high three hits and two RBIs for Oakland, including a homer leading off the seventh inning to chase Joe Saunders. Ellis also singled in a run.

Devil Rays 17, Orioles 2: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Carlos Pena homered twice, including a grand slam, and drove in a team-record seven runs as Tampa Bay hammered Baltimore. Delmon Young had a three-run shot during an eight-run fourth. The Devil Rays scored in six of eight innings.

Rangers 3, Royals 2: At Arlington, Texas, Vicente Padilla pitched two-hit shutout ball for six innings, Hank Blalock had two hits and two RBIs, and Texas hung on to beat Kansas City. Padilla struck out five and walked two as the Royals got only one runner as far as third base against him.

Blue Jays 6, Red Sox 4: At Boston, Vernon Wells broke out of a slump with a tiebreaking homer in the ninth inning and two singles, and Toronto defeated the Red Sox. Wells connected for a two-run shot after Hideki Okajima hit leadoff batter Gregg Zaun with a pitch and John McDonald sacrificed.

Tigers 2, White Sox 1 (11): At Detroit, Timo Perez’s single off the right-center field wall with two outs in the 11th gave the Tigers a win over Chicago. Mike Hessman homered for Detroit. Bobby Seay pitched a scoreless inning for the win. Danny Richar hit a home run for Chicago.
