Angels 3, Indians 2 (10): At Anaheim, Calif., Kendry Morales lined a single past a drawn-in infield to drive in the winning run in the 10th inning as Los Angeles defeated Cleveland. Francisco Rodriguez, trying to preserve John Lackey’s 17th win, gave up Ryan Garko’s 16th home run leading off the ninth, resulting in extra innings.

Red Sox 4, Orioles 0: At Baltimore, Jon Lester allowed four hits in seven innings to win his third straight start, and Boston handed Daniel Cabrera his 15th loss of the season, defeating the Orioles. Lester (4-0) struck out four, walked two and allowed only one runner past second base.

Blue Jays 7, Devil Rays 2: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Justin McGowan struck out a career-high 12 in eight innings and Gregg Zaun hit a three-run home run to lead Toronto’s victory over Tampa BayThe Blue Jays have won eight of 12.

Yankees 3, Royals 2: At Kansas City, Mo., Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada hit home runs to help New York defeat the Royals and remain three games in front of Detroit in the wild-card race. Rodriguez homered for the sixth time in nine games, raising his major league-leading total to 49.

White Sox 11, Twins 10 (13): At Chicago, Jim Thome 496th career home run helped the White Sox erase a six-run deficit in the ninth and A.J. Pierzynski hit an RBI single in the 13th as the White Sox defeated Minnesota. Both teams scored six runs in the ninth to remain tied, the first time in major league history that has happened.

Rangers 5, Athletics 3: At Arlington, Texas, Edinson Volquez pitched two-hit ball over six scoreless innings, and Frank Catalanotto homered, tripled and drove in three runs to lead Texas to a victory over Oakland.
