How Do I … prevent unwanted pop-up ads when browsing?

You will find that most browsers have built-in pop-up ad stoppers. If your browser is allowing annoying pop-ups, you need to set the preferences to stop them.

In the Firefox browser (the one we prefer), go to Preferences and click Content. There you activate the “Block pop-up windows” checkbox. (There’s an Exceptions choice, where you can allow some sites to provide pop-ups.)

For Internet Explorer (version 7), go to Tools and then choose the Pop-up Blocker category. You either allow pop-ups, or you block them. The other option there, Pop-Up Blocker Settings, gives you control over which sites allow pop-ups.
