Huskies’ Roy Lewis honored

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

SEATTLE – The talk has been of freshman quarterback Jake Locker and the offense. Washington’s two football wins have come largely because of the play of the defense.

And instrumental has been Roy Lewis, the only senior starter in the secondary, who is the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Saturday’s 24-10 win over then-No. 22 Boise State.

His big plays included tackling Broncos star running back Ian Johnson for a 2-yard loss late in the third quarter and a pass interception and pass breakup in the end zone in the fourth quarter.

UW’s defense will face another challenge this week against the physical approach of No. 10 Ohio State.

•The Huskies game on Sept. 22 at No. 11 UCLA will kick off at 7:15 p.m. and be broadcast nationally on FSN.
