WSU knocks off No. 16 OSU

Mallory Fox’s goal less than 4 minutes into the match was all Washington State (3-0-1) needed to beat No. 16 Oklahoma State (4-1) 1-0 in a tournament at Notre Dame Friday. WSU won for the first time away from home against a ranked opponent since a 3-2 double-overtime win against No. 11 Tennessee in 2005.

•Chelsey Hannesson scored a goal on a free kick in the 86th minute, giving host Eastern Washington (2-2) a 1-0 win over Cal State Bakersfield (1-4).

•Lindsay Hood and Christine Almquist each posted hat tricks as Community Colleges of Spokane (2-2-1, 2-0-1) routed Edmonds (0-3) 12-0 in NWAACC play at Spokane Falls Community College.

•Ashley Riley and Sheridan Jones scored their first career goals, both coming in the second half, as Gonzaga (3-2) blanked Vanderbilt (2-2-1) 2-0 at the Vanderbilt Tournament in Nashville, Tenn.

Men’s soccer

No. 20 Wisconsin (4-1) posted a 1-0 shutout of No. 12 Gonzaga (2-2) in the opening match of the Panther Invitational in Milwaukee.

•Ryan Mattern broke a 2-all tie with a goal off an assist from Kevin Bourland in the 85th minute, giving Spokane (4-1-1, 3-0) a 3-2 win over Edmonds (0-2-2, 0-2-1) in a NWAACC match at Spokane Falls.

Golf

Alex Prugh (University of Washington/Ferris High) shot a 71 and is in a seven-way tie for 11th place at 7 under after the second round of the Oregon Classic, a Nationwide Tour event, at the Shadow Hills Country Club in Junction City, Ore.

Volleyball

Gonzaga (9-3) extended its winning streak to seven by sweeping Alcorn State (0-7) in its opening match of the Nike/LaQuinta Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas. Redshirt freshman Caitlin Cozad had a career-high 12 kills in the Zags’ 30-5, 30-12, 30-21 victory.

•Stephanie Blackburn had 13 kills and 12 digs, leading No. 17 Ohio (8-2) to a 30-24, 30-23, 30-23 win over Washington State (9-3) at the Pioneer Classic in Denver.

•Sarah Rusch had 19 kills as Whitworth (6-3, 1-0 NWC) beat visiting Pacific (5-3, 0-1 NWC) 30-26, 23-30, 30-26, 30-23 in both teams’ Northwest Conference opener.

Junior hockey

Adam Knapp’s goal in the shootout gave Summerland a 4-3 win over the Spokane Braves in KIJHL action.

Prep volleyball

Oceana Bush had 10 kills and 12 digs to lead Lewis and Clark (2-0 GSL) to a 25-18, 25-16, 25-23 win over Ferris (0-2).

Cross country

Gonzaga’s finished the 8,000-meter course in 25 minutes, 5.7 seconds to take first place at the WCC Preview at Pier Park in Portland. Molly Funk led the Bulldogs women to a sixth-place finish after finishing the 6,000 in 23:22 to take 21st.
