Blue Jays 4, Red Sox 3: At Toronto, A.J. Burnett came within one out of a complete game and Russ Adams drove in the go-ahead run with a two-run double in the eighth inning, leading the Blue Jays past Boston. Burnett started the ninth and got the first two outs before Julio Lugo homered to left. Scott Downs got the final out for his first save.

Yankees 12, Orioles 0: At New York, Mike Mussina limited Baltimore to three singles over seven innings, Doug Mientkiewicz hit a three-run home run and the Yankees beat the Orioles. New York scored in double digits for the fourth time this month and 21st time this season.

Indians 7, Tigers 4: At Cleveland, Travis Hafner hit a three-run home run, and the Indians unloaded for four homers off Justin Verlander in a victory over Detroit. The Indians dropped their magic number to five for clinching the division and a first playoff appearance since 2001.

Royals 3, White Sox 2: At Kansas City, Mo., Gil Meche scattered four hits over seven innings, and Billy Butler drove in two runs as the Royals beat Chicago. Meche has worked 202 innings to become the first Kansas City pitcher to surpass the 200-inning mark since left-hander Darrell May logged 210 innings in 2003.

Angels 2, Devil Rays 1: At Anaheim, Calif., John Lackey took a four-hit shutout into the ninth inning and Los Angeles beat Tampa Bay to reduce its magic number to four for clinching the West Division.

Twins 4, Rangers 2: At Minneapolis, Torii Hunter drove in two runs to set his career high for a season (103) and Minnesota beat Texas.
