Girl Scout Program Center – Girls ages 5-17 are invited to use the arts and crafts room, computer lab and life skills center featuring a large kitchen, 1404 N. Ash St. A gymnasium, fitness room and rock climbing wall are available. Open weekdays from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturdays for groups by appointment. Riverfront Park Carrousel - The Looff Carrousel is open daily from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Created in 1909 by Charles Looff, Spokane’s famous Carrousel is a National Historical Landmark and listed on the National Historical Registry. The Carrousel includes 54 carved horses, one giraffe, one tiger and two Chinese dragon chairs. Runs through Oct. 1. Riverfront Park. $2/adults, $1/seniors/children age 12 and under. 625-6600.

Route of the Hiawatha - The “crown jewel” of rail-to-trail mountain bicycle trails is operated by Lookout Pass Ski Area. Wind through 10 tunnels and seven high trestles. This 15-mile route crosses the Bitterroot Mountains between Idaho and Montana, best known for the long St. Paul Pass or “Taft” Tunnel which is 1.66 miles in length. It’s all downhill with shuttle buses available to take you and your bike back to the top. Open daily through Oct. 7. 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m., Adjacent to I-90 at the Idaho/Montana state line, exit 0, 12 miles east of Wallace, Idaho. Day pass: $9/adults, $5/ages 3-13. Youth Bike Race Series - Free community outreach event for children up to age 13. Booths will be set up in the parks at each event so kids can test their strength with Group Health physical therapists “Stretch It Here” program, visit the foundation’s Blood & Guts exhibits and receive a bike safety check at REI.
