Huskies expect Howell

After sitting out the Ohio State game with a knee injury, Washington linebacker Dan Howell expects to be back on the field Saturday when the Huskies play UCLA at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.

Howell hurt his knee against Boise State – he called it a strain – but downplayed the injury last week, making his absence against the Buckeyes something of a surprise. Kyle Trew made his first start in place of Howell.

Howell and his coaches say he is better this week, and should likely play.

“The reports out of Los Angeles were that UCLA starting quarterback Ben Olson missed practiced for the second straight day with “headaches.”

The school has not gone so far as the call the injury a concussion, but Olson did take several hard hits against Utah. Bruins coach Karl Dorrell has said that Olson will not play Saturday if he cannot practice today.

If Olson isn’t available, the starter will likely be Patrick Cowan, whose father, Tim, played quarterback at Washington in the early 1980s.
