Panhandle Picks with Greg Lee

The Spokesman-Review

Unlike the 2006 Lake City High football team, I’ve never had a perfect season. It’s doubtful in this prognosticating business that that is remotely possible.

I say that because I’m backing into the obvious here: The guest beat me for the first time this year. North Idaho College women’s basketball coach Chris Carlson earned the distinction.

Carlson picked eight of 11 games correctly, edging The Scribe by one. The season scoreboard reads: Lee 26-8 (.765), Guests 24-10 (.706).

Former Coeur d’Alene High two-sport standout Nick Rook is my guest this week. A 1997 Vikings graduate, Rook started two years at quarterback and was a three-year starter at shortstop. He’s also served as a CdA assistant in baseball and football and operates the profitable Top Guns Prospect Camps for prep baseball players.

Coeur d’Alene at Lakeland: The Vikings need to change their fortune in a big way, beginning this week, especially with the big game against their crosstown rival looming a week away.

After three straight losses, CdA will turn things around. But Lakeland should put up a fight. CdA 27, Lakeland 13.

Guest: Ye of little faith. The Vikings are primed and will get back on track Friday. Coach (Shawn) Amos and the staff will have that team ready. Plus, they always play well at Lakeland. The Vikings’ offense settles in, their defense gets a score – and go get ‘em, boys. Love the Vikings. CdA 35, Lakeland 12.

Post Falls at Moscow: The Trojans are quietly putting together a nice season – and they’ve done so while dealing with some injuries.

The Trojans could come out flat, but they’ll have no problem flattening Moscow. PF 44, Moscow 13.

Guest: Great to see the Trojans playing well. PF has way too much offense and impressive numbers with their No. 2 quarterback (Nikk Reinhardt). The PF staff has that team headed in the right direction. Great job, Jeffrey (Hinz, PF coach and personal friend). PF 42, Moscow 6.
