Charities plan fundraising walks

Ah, fall. The air is crisp, the leaves are falling. And the charity walks are in bloom.

Seems like nearly every organization holds a fundraising walk this time of year.

So, pick your favorite cause, raise some money and lace up your shoes. Here’s a rundown of some of the upcoming walks:

•The Walk to D’Feet ALS takes place at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mirabeau Park. Those doing the 3-mile walk raise money to help treat and cure ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

•Some 1,000 walkers are expected to participate in the annual Walk to Cure Diabetes on Saturday. The 3-mile walk begins at 10 a.m. at Riverfront Park and the Inland Northwest Branch of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation hopes to raise more than $150,000.

•The 2.5-mile Mad Hatter Walk and Roll also takes place at 10 a.m. Saturday, beginning at Manito Park. The walk raises money for the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America.

•Next month, the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network will hold a 3-mile walk in Coeur d’Alene to raise money for food allergy research and education. The Coeur d’Alene Walk for Food Allergy begins Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. at Higgins Point Park on the Centennial Trail.
