‘People: 24’ star finds real-life trouble
Kiefer Sutherland must have thought he really was Jack Bauer.
But he acted more like Paris Hilton.
Sutherland, 40, who stars as the government agent Bauer in the Fox TV series “24,” was arrested early Tuesday on misdemeanor drunken driving charges after failing a field sobriety test.
The actor was pulled over at about 1:10 a.m. in West Los Angeles after officers spotted him making an illegal U-turn.
Sutherland tested over the state’s legal blood alcohol limit of .08 percent, and was arrested, Officer Karen Smith said. He was released around 4 a.m. after posting $25,000 bail.
Speaking of driving crimes …
This week is starting out as a hot one for driving celebs (see above). On Monday, David Hasselhoff‘s ex-wife, Pamela Bach, 44, turned herself in for booking on a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge stemming from a fender-bender in North Hollywood.
Bach was accused of backing her car into another vehicle on Jan. 22. Her lawyer, Peter Knecht, said Bach inspected both cars and left when she did not see any damage. An onlooker took down her license plate number.
And don’t forget Clooney
Completing the traffic-trouble trifecta, George Clooney and girlfriend Sarah Larson showed up at Monday’s premiere of his film “Michael Clayton” bearing bruises from a Friday motorcycle crash. Clooney was sporting a broken rib, while Larson was on crutches. Clooney’s bike, on which Larson was a passenger, collided with a car on Friday in upstate New York, where Clooney is filming Joel Coen‘s “Burn After Reading” with Brad Pitt, John Malkovich and Frances McDormand.
Jolie is a jolly good diplomat
The thin line between government and celebrity is dwindling. British Foreign Secretary David Miliband will meet Angelina Jolie in New York this week to discuss, uh, global diplomacy. The 32-year-old actress is a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Meanwhile, at the movies …
Prince Charles‘ people just couldn’t get their Brit-royal act together. And so for only the second time in more than 60 years, the annual tradition known as the Royal Film Performance has been canceled. An Oct. 29 gala screening of director Sarah Gavron‘s “Brick Lane,” which was to have been attended by the British prince, has been scrapped.
The prince’s handlers cited a schedule conflict as the reason – although it’s true, too, that the film has attracted protests from some British Bengalis.
