Greg Bever named to CCS board

Greg Bever, publisher of the Journal of Business, has been appointed by Gov. Chris Gregoire to a five-year term on the Community Colleges of Spokane board of trustees.

He will succeed Helen Malone, who is stepping down after 10 years.

Community Colleges of Spokane also has named a new academic services officer. Jim Minkler is a former Spokane Falls Community College dean of instruction for social sciences, philosophy and transfer education.

Other appointments at Community Colleges of Spokane include Carol Riesenberg, interim vice president of learning at Spokane Community College; Joe Dunlap, interim president of SCC; Christine Armstrong, interim dean of health and environmental sciences at SCC; Dennis Keen, interim dean of instruction for arts and sciences at SCC; Karen Driscoll, interim vice president of student services at SFCC; Jille Shankar, interim assistant dean of student services at SFCC; and Linda DeFord, acting dean of student services at the Institute for Extended Learning.

Service learning expos

Spokane Community College will present a Service Learning Expo on Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Lair student center, Building 6, 1810 N. Greene St.

Representatives from 35 community agencies will be on hand, including the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, YMCA of the Inland Northwest, the Lands Council and the Center for Justice.

Spokane Falls Community College will hold its Service Learning Expo on Monday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Union Building, Lounges A, B and C, Building 17, 3410 W. Fort George Wright Drive.
