In brief: Get rid of old computers at F1

The Spokesman-Review

A Rathdrum computer store, F1 for Help, has started a free service for people who wish to get rid of old computers, monitors and accessories, including cables and cords.

The goal is to prevent these items from landing in a public dump.

“Americans throw away 20 million computers each year,” according to an F1 for Help press release.

Sadly enough, along with that hardware, people are introducing millions of pounds of poisonous heavy metals like lead, mercury, cadmium and chromium, to the landfill, too.

“This program will help ensure that your obsolete computer systems are recycled in a secure and an environmentally friendly way,” store owner Joe Hume said.

Hard drives will be wiped clean of all data for reuse, when possible, in other machines. Circuit boards will be removed and sent to a Spokane company that reuses them.

Drop your decrepit computer off at F1 for Help. Or call Hume for more information at 687-0183.
