Byrne leads Lutes to win over Loggers

Michael Byrne passed for 271 yards on just 11 completions – two for touchdowns – and the Pacific Lutheran Lutes rolled to a 37-8 victory over the Puget Sound Loggers in Northwest Conference action on Saturday in Puyallup, Wash.

Greg Ford caught three passes for 125 yards and a score for the Lutes (4-0, 1-0).

The Loggers (2-2, 0-1) trailed just 13-8 in the first quarter, but five lost fumbles helped PLU score 24 unanswered points to pull away.

Central Washington 29, St. Cloud State 0: Johnny Lopez rushed for a career-high 182 yards on 24 carries and the Wildcats (3-1, 2-1) forced six turnovers in a North Central Conference romp over the Huskies (3-2, 0-2) in St. Cloud, Minn.

Lopez scored on runs of five and 59 yards for CWU, ranked 25th in the D2football.com poll.

Mike Reilly completed 14 of 25 passes for 181 yards and a touchdown for the Wildcats.

Minnesota-Duluth 22, Western Washington 14: Ted Schlafke completed 32 of 44 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs (2-3, 1-2 NCC) to a victory over the Vikings (1-3, 0-3) in Duluth.

It was the third straight loss for WWU.

Linebacker Shane Simmons had a career-high 18 tackles for the Vikings. WWU’s Adam Perry completed just 14 of 32 passes for 184 yards and a score.
