Capt. Blaine Golden receives Air Medal

Air Force Capt. Blaine Golden was decorated with the Air Medal, which is awarded to any person who, while serving in or with the armed forces of the United States, has distinguished himself or herself by meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight.

Golden is an air battle manager regularly assigned to the 963rd Airborne Air Control Squadron at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City.

He is the son of David and Mary Golden of Spokane and graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1999.

Daniel Bullis graduated from the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego.

He is the son of Doug Bullis of Spokane and graduated from East Wenatchee High School in 2005.

•Army National Guard Pvt. Timothy Granstrom has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

He is the brother of David Granstrom of Spokane.

•Two local students were recently awarded scholarships at Washington State University.

Cody Glasgow, a 2003 graduate of Rogers High School, received a $400 A. Donald Poe Scholarship. He is the son of Del Glasgow and Julie Gyarfas of Spokane.

Jared Cummins received a $500 Construction Management Scholarship. He is the son of James Cummins of Elk and Jody Jackson-Cummins of Spokane and graduated from Riverside High School in 2006.

•Washington State University School of Music received a number of honors at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival recently.

WSU VOJAZZ, under the direction of Jennifer Parker received an Adjudicators’ Choice Award, along with soloists Matt Lanka (baritone saxophone), David Miner (instrumental composition), Troy Robey (bass) and Tiffany Stephens (drums).

The WSU Jazz Big Band, under the direction of Greg Yasinitsky received an Adjudicators’ Special Commendation Award, along with soloists Kayla Williams (alto voice) and Himes Alexander (bass voice).

Vickie Chalmers, Charles Cody, Pamela Medle, Leilani Stevens and Jim Zuba were recently awarded the President’s Employee Excellence Awards by Washington State University.

Cody Wymore of Spokane was named to the fall quarter dean’s list at Ithaca College’s School of Music in Ithaca, N.Y. He is the son of Michael and Jennifer Wymore of Spokane.

Katherine Kerschen of Colbert was named to the fall quarter dean’s list at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. She is a graduate of St. George’s School.

Brian Pan of Pullman was named to the fall semester dean’s list at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore.

Zachary Cardella of Spokane was named to the dean’s list for fall semester at Curry College in Milton, Mass.

Jacob Didesch of Spokane,Ashlynn Christian of Hayden, Idaho, and Julie Nichols of Sandpoint, were named to the fall semester dean’s list at Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore.

Paul Christensen and Danielle Stevens of Spokane were recently named to the dean’s list at Boston University for fall semester.

Charles Wesley of Spokane was named to the fall semester dean’s list at Connecticut College in New London, Conn.

Mikayla Jordan of Colbert and Lauren Ring of Spokane were named to the fall semester dean’s list at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.

Brian Birgenheier of Spokane was named to the winter quarter dean’s list at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind. He is the son of Janet Porco of Spokane.

Katharine Scrimgeour of Spokane was named to the Gonzaga University President’s list for fall semester.

Jennifer Miller, Carrie Douglas and Garrett MacDonald of Spokane were named to the autumn semester dean’s list at the University of Montana.

Melissa Lindsay of Spokane was named to the Monmouth College dean’s list for fall semester. She is the daughter of Rob and Meg Lindsay of Spokane.
