NC science teacher wins grant

Randall James, a teacher at North Central High School, has received a $10,000 Toyota Tapestry Grant for excellence and innovation in science education.

He was one of 50 teachers nationally to get this grant which was presented to him March 27 at the National Science Teachers Association National Conference on Science Education in Boston.

The funds will be used for students to explore bacteria found in historically contaminated soils in Spokane by isolating the bacteria and using its DNA sequence to identify its origin.

Google software expert a guest at IT seminar

Career and technical IT students in Spokane Public Schools will participate in a TEConnections training and computer distribution session today from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lewis and Clark High School.

Students from Wahluke High School in Mattawa, Wash., will also attend the seminar which will feature guest speaker Jordanna Chord, a software engineer at Google.
