Gaborik’s goals give Wild win

Marian Gaborik and the Minnesota Wild won the Northwest Division at home, and that’s where they’ll start the playoffs.

Gaborik scored two third-period goals to help the Wild beat the Calgary Flames 3-1 on Thursday night for the first division title in the franchise’s seven seasons.

Minnesota’s Jacques Lemaire also earned his 500th career victory and became the 12th coach in NHL history to reach that mark.

Minnesota will be the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference and have an extra home game for at least the first round.

Rangers 3, Islanders 0: At Uniondale, N.Y., Jaromir Jagr scored two power-play goals in a 2-minute span of the first period and the Rangers clinched an Eastern Conference playoff berth with a victory over the Islanders.

Capitals 4, Lightning 1: At Washington, Alex Ovechkin broke Luc Robitaille’s single-season NHL record for most goals by a left wing with his 64th and 65th scores to lead the Capitals to a victory over Tampa Bay.

Canadiens 3, Sabres 1: At Montreal, Bryan Smolinski scored twice and the Canadiens beat Buffalo, eliminating the Sabres from the playoff race.

Red Wings 3, Blue Jackets 2: At Detroit, Henrik Zetterberg wrapped up the Presidents’ Trophy for Detroit, scoring with 11 seconds left to rally the Red Wings to a victory over Columbus.

Senators 8, Maple Leafs 2: At Toronto, Antoine Vermette scored three goals and Ottawa moved within a point of wrapping up a playoff berth with a win over the Maple Leafs.

Predators 3, Blues 2: At Nashville, Tenn., J.P. Dumont scored the tying goal and assisted on the winner as the Predators beat St. Louis.

Stars 4, Coyotes 2: At Glendale, Ariz., Brenden Morrow scored and added an assist to lead Dallas past Phoenix.

Kings 4, Sharks 2: At Los Angeles, Anze Kopitar scored twice in the final 5:38 to lead the Kings to a victory over playoff-bound San Jose.

Oilers 2, Canucks 1: At Vancouver, British Columbia, Dwayne Roloson made 13 of his 37 saves in the third period, and Edmonton knocked the Canucks out of the playoffs.
