A snapshot of hunger in Spokane County:

42 percent of emergency food clients are children

59 percent of parents skip meals so their children can eat

53 percent of adults with children skip meals when they run low on food. Of those, 33 percent skip meals weekly and 28 percent skip meals at least once a month.

61 percent of the households receive food stamps – with 37 percent receiving less than $100 each month and 32 percent receiving $100-$199 a month.

Throughout the Inland Northwest, 197,000 people are served by Second Harvest Food Bank every year – 50 percent of the households served have at least one employed adult, and 56 percent of all clients live in rural or suburban areas.
