The Slice: Coming soon to a station near you

Now that “Antiques Roadshow” and “Frontline” have visited Spokane, perhaps it is just a matter of time before other PBS series come calling.

A few possibilities come to mind.

“American Experience” — Building of Grand Coulee Dam and Saturday nights in Spokane.

“NOVA” — Did people who spent time in local bomb shelters in the early ‘60s expose themselves to lethal doses of radon?

“Barney & Friends” — Spokane kids learn new colors and speculate about what it would be like to be chomped by a dinosaur.

“Nature” — The urban raccoon’s street cred and marmot sign language.

“This Old House” — How to tell if heavy snow damaged your roof.

“Masterpiece Theater” — A production of Jess Walter’s “Citizen Vince” featuring an all-British cast.

“Soundstage” — Some band you’ve never heard of.

“It’s a Spokane world: So I e-mailed a friend about having lunch.

He wrote back while waiting for a flight in Chicago. He said he had just run into a Spokane guy we both know.

OK, that’s not all that unusual. But here’s the thing.

That third guy? I don’t know him well. But 95 percent of the times I have seen him, it has been in the restaurant where my friend and I always go for lunch.

“New information: A couple of readers who seemed to know what they were talking about said that the Spokane brewery alluded to in Saturday’s column was actually located near Second and Cedar.

“Genetic assay: So there was a political gathering at Spokane Community College Saturday. Those signing in were asked to fill out information forms. These sheets included multiple-choice racial/ethnic boxes. The idea, of course, was to check just one.

But I’m told one woman thought she was supposed to write in the exact percentage of each option she had in her hereditary makeup.

“Two for Tuesday: 1. In our area, three popular interior decorating schemes could be described as Jetsons, big screen and taxidermic.

2. Sometimes in Spokane, when parking was more of a challenge than usual, the answer is that there was a quilt show nearby.

“Slice answers: Katie Vance and several other readers said a statue of actor Matthew Modine depicting a scene from “Vision Quest” would be a fun addition to downtown Spokane.
