Poetry Praise will feature poets, dancers, musicians

Jesus is the Answer Apostolic Church, 1803 E. Desmet Ave., will present its third annual Poetry Praise on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The event will include poets, silent praise dancers, singers, drummers, musicians, step-teams and more.

Concerts

Mt. Spokane Church, 6311 E. Mount Spokane Park Drive, will present a Country Music and Family Fun Night Saturday at 5 p.m.

The evening will feature the JCW Band, dinner and dancing.

The cost is $5 for a family of four or $3 per person.

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane, 4340 W. Fort George Wright Drive, will present pianist Gennie Gregg Sunday at 7 p.m.

Gregg is a graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts and the St. Louis Conservatory.

The concert is part of the church’s Sundays at Seven concert series which celebrates the restoration of the church’s grand piano.

There is a suggested donation of $20 at the door.

Baha’is of Spokane

The Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Spokane will host Erica Toussaint, a member of the National Spiritual Assembly, and Kevin Locke, a Lakota/Sioux performer and educator, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at a fireside event at the East Central Community Center, 500 S. Stone.

Speaker events

•Spokane First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar St., will present another Spokane City Forum Wednesday from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This month’s forum will feature Spokane Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick and civilian volunteer, Pat DeVries.

The two will speak on the topic “What it takes to keep a Community Safe.”

Tickets are $10 or $5 for students and include lunch. Child care is available for $4 per child.

Gonzaga University will present Thomas Madden of St. Louis University today at 7:30 p.m. at the Jepson Center Auditorium on the school’s campus, 502 E. Boone.

Madden will discuss “The Crusades and Us: Medieval and Modern Perceptions of Christendom’s Holy Wars.”

Gonzaga will also host “Physics and the God of Abraham VII: Physics, Faith and the Question of Extra Terrestrials” series of lectures Sunday through Tuesday.

Eric Kincannon will discuss “How Should we Treat ETs?” Sunday in the Wolff Auditorium in the Jepson School of Business at 7:30 p.m.

Marie George will speak on the topic “Christianity and Extraterrestrials: a Catholic Perspective” at 7 p.m. also in the Wolff Auditorium.

On Tuesday at 7 p.m., also in the Wolff Auditorium, Chris Stoughton will discuss “How Astronomers are Searching for ETI.”

Tea and Style Show

The Whitworth Auxiliary at Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church, 312 W. Hawthorne Road, will present “Spring’s a Poppin’” a spring tea and style show Tuesday from 1 to 3:30 p.m. in Quall Hall of the church.

Rummage sales

•The United Methodist Women at Fowler United Methodist Church, 3928 N. Howard, will present its annual rummage sale Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Items for sale include clothing, furniture, linens, books toys, gardening items and refreshments.

Everything for sale may be purchase by a donation.

The rummage sale will benefit local organizations such as the Union Gospel Mission, Ogden Hall and the Northeast Neighborhood food bank.

Windfall extended hours

Windfall, 1024 S. Perry St., has extended its hours to Monday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The thrift shop benefits the programs of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

Christian singles

Spokane Christian Singles will have speed dating Saturday for singles who are 20 to 5 years old at 7 p.m.

There will be another speed dating event Sunday for singles 45 and older Sunday at 3 p.m.

Both events will be held at Mission Community Presbyterian Church, 2103 E. Mission Ave.

Speed dating events are $10 for the first visit and $7 after that.
