Severely malnourished dogs taken from owner

The Spokesman-Review

Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service receives many calls requesting animal protection officers to check on the conditions of animals. Last week two dogs were brought to the shelter, starving and dehydrated.

Animal protection officer Nicole Montano answered a call to check on the conditions of a pair of dogs. When Montano arrived she discovered two starving Doberman mixes. “The dogs were friendly, but obviously hungry,” Montano said. They were found in a filthy kennel, and the owner reported that he had not fed the dogs for at least six days.

Both neutered males are approximately 8 years old. They have been together since puppyhood. Both dogs will be behaviorally evaluated at the SCRAPS shelter.

“What is amazing is after the cruel treatment and neglect of both these dogs, they still have hearts of gold,” Montano said.

Both Jack and Dusty are available for adoption at SCRAPS, 2521 N. Flora Road, Spokane Valley. The telephone number for SCRAPS is 477-2532.

SCRAPS is asking the community for help. It’s easy to be a responsible pet owner by following these simple guidelines:

•Provide proper food, water and shelter for you pet.

•License your pet – it’s the law and your pet’s phone call home.

•Make a life long commitment to your pet.

•If you are need of assistance (such as pet food), please ask.
