Admiration for Bennett

The Spokesman-Review

I’ve always had great admiration for Cougars coach Tony Bennett. He had no obligation to WSU and the Cougar Nation. He put WSU on the map and proved to the country that you can win and get to the “Big Dance” through Pullman.

Nobody would have a right to criticize him if he chose to go to a famed institution for three or four times the money he can receive at WSU. That he chose to stay and commit to the future of Cougars basketball is beyond belief. This has to be the greatest news in the history of WSU athletics.

Words cannot express the admiration I now have for this man and I’m sure I’m relating this on behalf of many thousands of Cougars. This man has to be one of the most decent and moral individuals in the sports world.

We thank you, Tony, for your noble and unselfish commitment to WSU. We have never been prouder to be Cougars. We all know that success at Pullman, because of climate and location, is one of the greatest challenges in America. There will never be a better person, however, to give us that opportunity and dream.

Tony, on behalf of Cougars everywhere, we wish you the best of luck wherever you venture. If you get tired of round ball, the nation and the world desperately needs your virtue, leadership and guidance in the greatest sphere of all.
