How to become a CASA volunteer

Fill out an application at one of the CASA offices or online.

A screening interview will examine the applicant’s background, upbringing and professional experience.

The interview is followed by 30 hours of training.

“Red flags would be someone who has a grudge against the system based on a personal experience; that will not work for us,” said Susan Cairy, juvenile court volunteer programs director in Spokane County Juvenile Court. “We look for people with good communication skills, written and verbal. They have to be able to stand up in court and be articulate in front of a judge.” The future of an abused, neglected or abandoned child rests on the shoulders of the CASA volunteer.
