Meredith hurls perfect game against winless Sandpoint

Blake Meredith threw a perfect game and struck out 12 as visiting Post Falls blanked Sandpoint 11-0 in the first game of an Inland Empire League doubleheader. Lauran Nagrone had three RBIs for PF (8-3, 5-1) and Richelle Ashburn went 4 for 5 with three RBIs to help down Sandpoint (0-18, 0-10). Ashburn threw a complete game with 11 strikeouts in the second game and defeated Sandpoint 12-0. Kandace McArthur and Meredith each had two RBIs.

In other IEL action, Jamie Klopatek of Lakeland (8-7, 3-5) threw a complete game and struck out nine to close out visiting Moscow (7-10, 6-7) 4-0 in the first game of a doubleheader at Rathdrum. Klopatek added a two-run single in the sixth inning. Moscow rebounded in the second game as Nancy Charles and Sarah Lynn homered in the first inning during a 3-2 win. Klopatek struck out six in the losing effort. … Coeur d’Alene (11-5, 7-3) won a doubleheader against visiting Lewiston (10-5, 5-5). CdA edged Lewiston 3-1 in the first game, and prevailed 7-1 in the second thanks to a single and triple from Lauren Horton.

•Timberlake (7-6, 5-1) won both games of an Intermountain League doubleheader at Spirit Lake to stay ahead of visiting Kellogg (9-2, 5-2) in the league standings. Both teams were tied at 4 headed to the bottom of the seventh inning in the second game, but Brit Amende hit a game-winning inside-the-park solo home run. Afton Allred pitched Timberlake to a 10-1 victory in the first game, striking out 10. Timberlake’s Megan Hill was 3 for 4, including a two-run home run in the first inning. … The doubleheader between St. Maries and Priest River was postponed because of snow and makeup games have not been rescheduled.

•Pullman (8-4, 5-3) swept host Deer Park (0-9, 0-7) in a Great Northern League doubleheader. Kirsi Voshell’s three RBIs in the first game helped her team to a 12-4 win. Voshell also drove in three in the second game and Pullman won 11-1. Kayley Byrne added a two-run single in the third inning.

Baseball

Matt Blankenship hit a three-run homer in the eight-run sixth inning to give Lewiston (11-0, 7-0) a 13-5 win over host Coeur d’Alene (6-8, 4-4) in the first game of an Inland Empire League doubleheader. Ben Turbin was 2 for 4 with a double. Tom Kerr hit a three-run home run in the second game as Lewiston downed Coeur d’Alene 7-4. Steve Welton was 3 for 3 and J.J. Turbin went 2 for 4 with a double. … Elsewhere, Cory Rohrenbach threw a complete game and struck out seven as Lakeland (7-5, 6-4) beat host Moscow (2-14, 2-11) 7-2 in the first game of a doubleheader. Scott Carr was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two stolen bases and Kyle VanDever’s double scored all of Lakeland’s three runs in the fourth inning. C.J. Schelin gave up one run to Moscow in the second game and Lakeland prevailed 4-1. VanDever was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Zach Hull was 1 for 3 with an RBI double. … Zack Aker struck out 11 in a complete game to help Post Falls (4-8, 3-4) outlast host Sandpoint 9-7 in the first game of a doubleheader. Sandpoint (6-7, 3-5) rebounded for a 15-2 victory in the second game as Woody Hawkins had a double and a home run.

•Drew Ableman was 3 for 4 with three runs and an RBI to lead Cheney (10-3, 7-2) to a 7-5 win over visiting Colville (8-5, 5-5) in the first game of a Great Northern League doubleheader. Rick Heuschkel gave up two hits for Cheney, walked none and had four strikeouts. Ableman turned in another 3-for-4 performance in the second game and Logan Hennessy was 4 for 4 with three RBIs as Cheney dropped Colville 12-2. Anthony Christianson earned the victory and was 3 for 4 with a three-run home run and a two-run double. … Elsewhere, Cary Conklin threw a complete-game one-hitter as Clarkston (5-6, 4-4) defeated visiting Riverside 11-0 in the first game of a doubleheader. Doug Adelsbach was 3 for 3 with three RBIs. Kyle Fox pitched another one-hit shutout in the second game and as Clarkston posted a 14-0 win over the Rams (0-13, 0-10). Eric Speer and Brian O’Kelly each homered for Clarkston. … Travis Cooper pitched two relief innings to help host Pullman (7-1, 5-1) earn a 10-7 decision over Deer Park (2-10, 1-9) in the first game of a doubleheader. Cooper was 2 for 3 and had three RBIs, including a RBI triple in the fifth inning and an RBI double in the five-run sixth inning. Cooper notched a 3-for-3 performance in the second game that included two RBIs and two runs as Pullman beat DP 13-2. Tyler Druffel hit his first homer this year and had four RBIs. A.J. Therrien earned the win and gave up two runs on four hits.

•Josh Eastin was 3 for 4 with four stolen bases to lead host Timberlake (4-6, 3-2) to a 6-1 win over Kellogg (2-9, 0-6) in the first game of an Intermountain League doubleheader at Spirit Lake. Marshall Barnhouse pitched a complete game and struck out 12 for the win. Timberlake’s Kyle Overland struck out nine en route to a 6-0 victory in the second game. He added two RBIs. Derek Tymeson hit a solo shot in a five-run fifth.

Track

Alicia Prach won the 100 hurdles in 16.3 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 50.9 to lead the Mead girls to victory at the 10-team Big Red Classic at Cheney High School. Joe Murray and Jack Cerenzia went 1-2 in the 400 to help Mt. Spokane’s boys top the 11-team field.

Alex Pfeifer won the 400 (51.97) and 800 (2:03.51) to lead Lind-Ritzville’s boys to the Undeberg Invitational team title at Medical Lake. Courtney Flnn, Suzanne Gust, Danielle Sackmann and Heather Whitmore combined to win the 400 and 1,600 relays as Lind-Ritzville also captured the girls title.

Boys soccer

Pullman (11-0, 9-0) kept its record perfect in the Great Northern League with an 11-0 win over host Chewelah (1-10, 1-8). T.K. Hemmi and Kevin Spangenberg each tallied two goals in the win. … Also in the GNL, Tyler Bland and Ronnie Schroeder scored first-half goals as Riverside (5-6, 5-4) defeated Clarkston (1-11, 1-9) 3-0.

Golf

Justin Haase tied for second place with an even-par 72 to help Lewis and Clark win the Colville Invitational at Dominion Meadows. The Tigers averaged 76.5 for their four scoring golfers to win at 306, eight strokes ahead of Mead’s Blue team. Corey Meyers was the top individual with a 2-under 70 for 10th-place Deer Park.
