At Baseball Almanac, diamonds are forever

The Spokesman-Review

People get into baseball arguments as soon as the season gets rolling.

Which team had the most stolen bases in a single season? Which team had the most stolen bases in a single game?

Mixed Nuts could find 30 baseball sites that try to answer those questions.

One starting point is BaseballAlmanac (at www.baseball-almanac.com), where the database is enormous and the national pastime is sliced, diced and endlessly quantified.

Summer airline information

It’s not a good time to fly across the country. Prices are rising, flights keep getting canceled. But still, there are some sites that help sort through the maze of options and find good deals.

One good site is Airlines of the World, at flyaow.com. It has the usual collection of categories for finding coupons, frequent flier programs and packages connected with cruises and vacation travel.

Its weekly Internet special deals choice is better than average and is a recommended tool to try out.

Selkirkloop.org

Going outside and having fun is the next order of the day.

The wonderfully scenic Selkirk Loop, in northeastern Washington, has a full-time Web site devoted to its many features and resources.

It’s at selkirkloop.org. The 280-mile Selkirk Loop scenic roadway wanders through southeastern British Columbia, Pend Oreille County in Washington and the Kootenai Valley in North Idaho.

The site gives a photo gallery of notable sites, plus maps, information on self-guided tours and an events calendar.

The Font Game

Anyone ready for another online game?

This is for you clever Mac fanboys, who are so good at design and Web layout.

It’s called the Rather Difficult Font Game and it’s at http://ajax.sayitaintslow.com/ fontgame/.

There are hundreds – thousands even – of fonts used in Web documents and online forms.

The game is a multiple-choice system that scores your guesses when you have to identify a series of 30 or more different Web fonts.

Good luck.
