Sweet Adelines singing at regional competition

Some 900 female barbershop-style singers from Washington, North Idaho and Alaska will gather in Spokane this weekend for this year’s Region 13 Sweet Adelines Competition.

The event features four public performances. A kickoff show begins tonight at 7:30 at the Doubletree Hotel Spokane City Center, 322 N. Spokane Falls Court. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Quartets will compete Friday starting at 5:45 p.m., and choruses on Saturday at 11:45 a.m., both at the INB Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $18 for each show, through TicketsWest outlets (509-325-SEAT, 800-325-SEAT, www.ticketswest.com).

The top three quartets and choruses, among others, will perform in a Festival of Champions on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the INB. Tickets are $20, through TicketsWest.

The first-place quartet and chorus will qualify for the 2009 international competition in Nashville, Tenn.
