Justin Walker had an RBI hit in the seventh inning and Rick Hauschkel pitched Cheney (11-4, 8-2) to an 8-7 win Friday in the first leg of a Great Northern League baseball doubleheader against host West Valley (13-4, 10-2). Jeremy Fernandez went 4 for 4 with a double and home run for WV. The Blackhawks scored five runs in the second inning before the Eagles pieced together a comeback.

In the second game, Tommy Peterson threw a three-hit shutout for WV in a 10-0 win. Bryan Peterson was 2 for 3 with four RBIs for the Eagles.

Elsewhere, Medical Lake (7-6, 5-5) and visiting Colville (9-6, 6-6) split a doubleheader. Ryan Wagner went 2 for 3 with three RBIs in a 7-3 ML win in the first game. In the second game, Gavin Earnhardt went 2 for 4 with three RBIs for Colville in a 12-3 win. … Deer Park (4-10, 3-9) swept host Riverside (1-15, 0-12) 6-3, 8-6. Alex Wolf had two hits for the DP in the first game and Connor Vanderholm went 2 for 4 for Riverside in the second.

Softball

West Valley (11-6, 10-2) received stellar pitching from Rachel Meagley and swept Cheney (6-12, 3-9) 5-0, 5-3 in Great Northern League action. Meagley recorded her fourth consecutive shutout with a two-hitter in the first game. Meagley also struck out 15 for the Eagles and Camille Mackie had a two-run triple. Stephanie Hjortedal went 2 for 3 with a triple for WV in the second game. Megan Ford led Cheney with three hits. … Elsewhere, Emily Lepp, Shayd Urhausen and Michelle Chang helped spark Colville (15-1, 12-0) to 19-0, 27-3 wins over host Medical Lake (1-11, 1-8). Lepp went 3 for 4 with two home runs and seven RBIs for the Indians in the first game. Also, Michaela Carr struck out nine and no-hit the Cardinals in the five-inning contest. In the second game, Colville scored 19 runs in the fourth inning. Urhausen and Chang had five RBIs each in that game. … Megen Sanders hit two homers in the first game and Jolene Millspaugh had three hits and three RBIs in the second as host Riverside (8-8, 5-7) recorded a 12-4, 12-6 sweep over Deer Park (0-13, 0-11).

Blake Meredith threw a complete-game two-hitter and struck out nine for Post Falls (11-3, 7-1) in a 7-0 win over visiting Moscow in an Inland Empire League game. Meredith also was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for PF. Moscow is 8-12, 6-8.

Afton Allred led host Timberlake (12-6, 9-0) on the mound and at the plate in a 14-4 and 6-0 sweep of St. Maries (7-5, 3-4) in Intermountain League. Allred went 2 for 3 with a grand slam and six RBIs in the first game. In the second game, Allred struck out 13 in a two-hit effort.

Golf

Lauren Howell of Mead shot a 72 to lead the Panthers to victory in the Big East Invitaiontal at Wandermere GC.
